Late Posts

Well I don't have much to say today so I am just going to talk about how I need to start posting earlier. I have have had too many instances where I am up late blogging, and without realizing, I go past midnight. This results in the appearance that I skipped a day of blogging. This is just something that has been bothering me for a little while and thats about it.

Chain Texts

Chain emails. Most of us have seen them. Those piss me off enough, but at least they are free. My sister has been getting chain texts from her friends. She has 500 text messages a month with our plan, and she was going over that without chain texts. The whole idea of this pisses me off. The ideas behind chain anything are completely stupid. Oh, if you don't send a fucking message to 10 friends, you are going to die at midnight. Who believes that? Honestly. And wasting money on these messages? Some people are just fucking dumb.

Portal

If any of you read Andrew Ramos's's's post about The Orange Box, you have a pretty good idea of what portal is about. Just to reinforce what he said, it is amazing. There is a PS3/Xbox360 version as well as a flash version on the internet, which can be found here-http://portal.wecreatestuff.com/portal.php. Either way you go it's great. They have the same basic concept, you use portals to solve puzzles, but the gameplay is different. The PS3/Xbox360 version has a better story, and obviously better graphics and such, but the flash is a lot of fun too. It's kind of difficult to get used to(it's a bit trippy to walk through a wall only to start falling from the ceiling), but once you get used to it, it's a ton of fun.

Being Sick

Okay so being sick sucks. I'm pretty sure we can all agree on that. But I have to say, as much as I hate school, I really don't like missing school days. It just puts you behind in everything. There is all sorts of make-up work and such. Also, staying home and not felling well alone all day gets extremely boring. It just sucks all around.

The Oscars

Well ladies and gentlemen, I am watching the 80th annual Academy Awards right now, and I have to say, these Academy people can be kinda stupid. For example, there is this movie, La Vie En Rose, that won like three awards. What the hell is that movie anyway? All I know is that I saw a lot of good movies this past year, and few of them are even nominated for anything. I am happy that Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova won for best song. The song is from "Once", by the way, which is quite a good movie. Also, the Bourne Ultimatum won all three awards that it was nominated for. But anyway, the Oscars are mostly just silly.

Bio parties

Right so me and a bunch of friends get together once in a while to do AP Bio homework. Sometimes it's just a routine assignment, and sometimes it's more of a project. My point is, we all kind of work together on whatever it is, and put our own individual spin on it. It really helps to do work with friends, makes it go by faster and such. However, it becomes extremely time consuming, because there ends up being more talking than working. There are lots of distractions, but who cares? It's a lot of fun.

American Gangster

All right so I don't know if any of you have seen American Gangster, but if you haven't, you should. It just came out on DVD. It's amazing. It's a little intense at parts, there is a lot of drug use, and a bit of violence, but it's really well done. I recommend you all check it out. Well I don't have much else to say so I'm gonna go to bed.

Dream Job

I'm sure that none of you could possibly even begin to guess what my dream job would be. I'll give you a hint, it has something to do with drums. Yeah, if I could do anything, I would get paid fantastic money for marching drum corps, 'cause that is what I really love to do. Unfortunately, unlike with sports, you don't get paid to march drum corps, you pay to march drum corps. About $2,000 a year, actually. But if I could get paid good money, I would do that without question.

Applebee's

Okay so I went to the Applebee's in Vestal twice in this past week. Both times, it was not that busy, yet the service was insanely slow. That is a little bit of a pet-peeve of mine, 'cause I'm a bit of an impatient person. I had to wait for forty fucking minutes to get my food. I mean, when you go out to eat, you're paying for some good service, so anyway Applebee's has lowered on my list of good restaurants.

Stereotypes

Yeah okay so I was in Syracuse this weekend for a rehearsal camp for the Brigadiers drum and bugle corps, and I happened to notice something very funny. There are only two black guys in the drumline; one is the center of the snare line, and the other is the center of the tenor line. Basically this means that they are the best at their respectives instruments. So the black guys are really good at the drums, thus supporting that particular stereotype. I had a good chuckle at that.

AP English

I know, you're sensing a trend. Well hopefully this is the last time I talk about AP classes for a while. But I was in Barnes and Noble today, and I ran into a friend of mine. So I said "hey, how are you?", and she replied "Good thanks, you?" "Good. So what are you here for?" "An AP Enlish study book". I then proceed to jokingly cringe, and she says "It's really not that bad, it's a hell of a lot less work than you have to do for Communications. I was appalled, so I said "Even if that's true, at least Communications 'work' is fun and interesting, and pertains to everyday life." "Yea, but AP is Goins." ............ Yes, ladies and gentlemen, she said it. I would just like to take this oppurtunity to say that Mrs. Krieger is a better teacher than Mrs. Goins(although Mrs. Goins is a fine person) and Comunications is a way better class than AP English.

AP Chemistry

So I meant to blog about this yesterday, but I forgot, so here it is. Yesterday we had a pop quiz in AP Chemistry, and it was terrible. I consider myself to be pretty good at chemistry. I understand concepts quickly and such, but I also sit in the back next to Travis and Rugs, and essentially never pay attention. I understand everything when I look back through my notes the night before the test. But the pop quiz totally threw me. So basically Travis, Rugs and I were just goofing off the entire time, and we probably all failed. 'Twas great fun.

Jeff Queen

Okay so tonight my post is about Jeff Queen. He is basically the best snare player in existence right now and possibly the best ever. He is to the world of marching percussion what Michael Jordan was/is to the NBA. Anyway, if any of you guys like to watch our drumline, check this video out. He is about a hundred times better than anybody at our school, and he does a lot of flashy stuff.

***Reminder*** The movie "Drumline" is a terrible representation of what drumlines/ marching bands are like, unless of course said drumlines/marching bands are mentally handicapped.

Also, Mrs. Krieger, this was meant to be my post for Thursday, I just didn't realize how late it was.

My New Drum

Two days ago I finally got my Christmas present! It was a 9-month-old Dynasty marching snare drum, but it is in superb condition. My parents and I ordered it back in December, but the drum corps that we bought it from needed some time to get everything together. It came with a harness, a stand , and a cover. All together, it was only $375, while the value is probably closer to $1000. Anyway, I'm really excited. I just need to plop a new head on it, and I'll be ready to go!

Education

I have always believed that education is a very valuable thing for a person to have. After all, knowledge is power. However, I think that the system is flawed. In most classes, there is a large gap between the most and least intelligent people, and there are many different levels of intelligence throughout the classroom. The teachers are forced to teach at the level of the average person. This causes the lower level students to fall behind, not really reaping many benefits, and causes the higher level students to be bored and thus distracted. I wonder if there are ways to improve the education system in order to make it a better experience for the people who aren't average.

Computer Services

Has anybody else noticed what a ridiculous amount of websites are blocked at the school? Computer Services has cracked down, and apparently we aren't allowed to do anything anymore. The UE Wrestling site is blocked, and a music education site, the one for the drum corps that I march with, brigadiers.com, is also blocked. When did brass and percussion instruments become so dangerous to our minds?

Steven Lynch

So I was recently watching Comedy Central, and I saw the Stand-Up special of Steven Lynch. He is a singing comedian and he is absolutely hillarious. A bunch of the songs are quite offensive, but it is very smart and clever. I'll definitely be looking out for more songs from him in the future.
